Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Centre of Giant Tortoises is about a mile from Puerto Villamil. You can get there on foot, by bike or by vehicle. To walk, start at Iguana Crossing Hotel. The paved main road begins just behind the hotel and leads towards the centre. About halfway along, turn right and continue on the footpath. You may see marine iguanas, shorebirds, yellow-crowned night herons and flamingos along the way.

The walk to the centre takes about 30 minutes. At Centre de Crianza Arnaldo Tupiza, you can see giant tortoises at different stages of life—from tiny hatchlings to tortoises over 100 years old. It’s lovely to see them side by side.

Please be careful: The area has little green poison apples. Some people can have a strong allergic reaction even from touching them.
